Renovo Media Group brings the future of film production to Clear Lake, Iowa with LED Volume Studio.

Iowa-based company expanding productions in the midwest.

Renovo Media Group announced the addition of an LED Volume wall to their state-of-the-art production facility which sits on a 12-acre campus in Clear Lake, Iowa. This new technology replaces their previous green screen wall.

The TV and film industry has seen a shift to virtual production technology in shows and movies such as ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘Thor: Love and Thunder,’ and ‘The Batman.’ Actors and directors are able to experience these virtual environments in camera through the use of motion capture and real-time compositing; thus saving time in post production while also increasing efficiency. Adding this technology to Renovo’s list of services is significant for Iowa.

“This is a game changer for film in Iowa,” said Eric Groth, CEO and Executive Producer at Renovo Media Group. “Not only can we access any location, terrain, or time of day, we can film year round in a controlled environment without inclement weather delaying productions.”

Renovo Media Group is working with Planar, an industry leader in visualization technology, to build the LED Volume. The wall is 34.98’ wide and 14.3’ tall with a 10 degree curve, and uses CarbonLight VX panels with a narrow pixel pitch of 1.9mm. Moveable LED side walls and a ceiling panel are available in the 3,500 sq ft production stage, allowing directors the flexibility to create a more immersive environment.

"Having a wall like this can save producers time and money,” stated Liz Gilman, Film Commissioner and Executive Producer at Produce Iowa-State Office of Media Production. “It literally opens up the world to them while taking advantage of the benefits of filming in Iowa. Our office appreciates Renovo investing in new technologies to keep our state relevant in the entertainment industry."

Everything needed for a full-size production is available at Renovo’s facility which includes an additional 14,500 sq ft soundstage, music studios, green rooms, audio and video editing suites, production offices, cafeteria with on-site catering, gym and game room, scene shop, rental warehouse, and indoor parking.

Renovo Media Group plans for the LED Volume to be complete by September 2022 and is currently taking bookings for film, TV, commercials, and music video productions. Learn more at renovomediagroup.com/LEDVolume.
